As I write, the East Coast is being inundated with the most beautiful snow! It's a nor'easter so they say. The ground is covered with at least a foot of bright white snow, and more is falling. Ahh, little bits of heaven! I think perhaps the best part of a day like this is the quietness and stillness that it brings. As I walked in the falling snow this morning, very early, I imagined myself walking with Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem. Being nine months pregnant, Mary must have been weary. Joseph must have been worried about how he would care for his new wife and soon to be born son. Together they must have wondered how they would raise this Son of God. . .what would they teach Him. . . would they be worthy and capable of raising this most special child. . .how would they provide for Him and protect Him? This sure resonates with me as a parent! I am supported and sustained when I remind myself as I go through the usual insecurities and challenges of parenting, that Mary and Joseph must have thought and felt all the very same things that we feel today. I can only imagine how encouraged, strengthened and comforted they were the very moment Jesus was born and they held God Himself in their arms.
Christmas is such a gift to us on so many levels. The gift of the Holy Child, the gift of humility, the gift of of joy, of family, of faith. Thank you, precious Almighty Father for sending your Son to earth, that we might have the holiness of Him and Christmas.
God bless you all. . . .may each night on your way to Christmas be a Silent
Night, Holy Night.
With love,
lisa
