2010. . .Ready or not, here it is! Have you made your New Year's Resolutions yet? You know the ones we make every year. . . to exercise more regularly, to lose those last 10 stubborn pounds, to get more organized, to eat healthier . . . It's become kind of a tradition for most of us, to make and then promptly break our New Year's resolutions. Why? Why is it so hard to break old habits, and form new healthier ones? I'm sure the neuroscientists would have all kinds of answers for us (you know, synapses, neuropathways and such) and of course there's the group of researchers that tell us 21 days. . . do anything for 21 consecutive days and you can form a new habit. But, you know what I think? I think we forget the single most important aspect of changing anything about ourselves. . . whether it be for a New Year's resolution or at any other time of the year. We forget to tap into the greatest source of all . . . Jesus. The one who strengthens, the one who heals, the one who encourages, the one who promises to take us by the right hand and help us (Isaiah 41:13) ALWAYS. This year, my resolution is to try and change the record that plays in my brain, you know the one. . . the one that says, "I'll never get it all done, it will never turn out right, I don't know what I'm doing, etc etc" and replace it with the constant reminder of the One who never, ever leaves me. I'm going to replace it with a constant reminder to myself and to others that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) So, whether our resolution be to lose those last 10 stubborn pounds, work out more regularly, pray more consistently. . . lean on the One, don't go it alone. With Him, and only with HIm can you accomplish any and all things.
God bless you and Happy, happy New Year. May 2010 be a year of peace, joy and great love.
